The 5 Levels Of Leadership
The 5 Levels Of Leadership
Studies have showed that there are 5 levels of leadership, beginning with the lowest level “Positional Leadership” and the highest level “The Pinnacle Leadership.” The aim of this article is to help us to better understand the different elements that leaders have in each level and to assist us to become better leaders.
The 1st level is called “Positional Leadership”
In positional leadership managers don’t have any leadership skills and employees follow them only because it’s their manager. They rely on rules, regulations, policies, and organization charts to control their people. Their people will only follow them within the stated boundaries of their authority. The downside of positional leadership is that subordinates will not take the “extra mile” and they will do only what is required by their manager.
The 2nd level is called “Permission Leadership”
In this higher level of leadership people want to follow their leaders because they want to. The major difference between the first level and the second level is trust. People trust their leaders and they give them “permission” to lead them. Also, in this case people are doing more than it is required because they want to help their leader.
The 3rd level is called “Production Leadership”
The “production leader” supports and guides team members to become more productive. Leaders of this level are more productive themselves and therefore are influencing the productivity of other people. Their focus is on assisting other people to become more productive and generate better results. They remove obstacles that interfere with the productivity of their department.
The 4th level is called “Developing People Leadership”
Leaders of this level focus on training and developing their people because they understand that through training people can do more. They equip their teams with skills and knowledge as a mean to reach higher levels of success. They try to assist their followers to become more competent and self-depended.
The 5th level is called “The Pinnacle Leadership”
Leaders who reach the highest level of leadership have earn the respect and trust of their followers. They have work hard, accomplished many things and therefore people see them as an example and an inspiration to become better. The “pinnacle leaders” will train other to become leaders themselves. By doing this they will achieve rapid business growth.
